Anne

In a letter, Austen described Anne Elliot as "almost too good for me." Do you find Anne "too good" to be true? Is her goodness cloying and sentimental? Or is her goodness something different—an integrity combined with strength and acceptance? How do you see the heroine of this novel?

  1. I think that Anne is what she seems - filled with goodness, kindness, and as you said, integrity.

  2. I love Anne - in my other life where I don't have stage fright and have the talent and other necessary qualities to be an actress the part I would always want to play is Anne in a rendition of Austen's Persuasion! She is good to the core! :) I don't care if she is too good - I think she's fabulous!

  3. I agree with Sue--she is who she seems--and as Sarah mentioned she has an integrity combined with strength and acceptance. She is geniuine and real.
