We are taught as young readers that every story has a "moral". Is there a moral to Sarah's Key? What can we learn about our world - and ourselves - from Sarah's story?
There are probably a few, but the one that stands out most to me is to open our eyes and to remember. While we have dark chapters in our lives we need to remember those times and not forget. We should know the history of our country, remember the victims as well as the heroes.
I think we can learn to stand up for ourselves, be true to our promises, and stand for what is right. Think of the courage that Sarah had to go back to get her little brother--no matter the cost. And then think of the courage that Julia showed throughout the book...
